Play with Jouer: The Bare Beauty Collection

Jouer Bare Beauty Collection

At one point, I belonged to Birchbox. Birchbox is a monthly sample club that costs $10 a month. Each month, they send you a handful – 4-5 – sample and trial size products. What’s cool about Birchbox is that they often have up and coming brands that you might not be aware of (even me!). What’s not so cool is that you don’t get to choose your products so sometimes you could be stuck with samples you wouldn’t want to get a hold of.

Jouer Lip Enhancer

Last year, they sent a Lip Balm type product called Jouer Lip Enhancer. I hadn’t ever heard of the brand Jouer but my high school/college french kicked in and I knew that Jouer meant “to play” – and I LOVE the idea of naming a cosmetic brand “to play”… very cute! The Lip Enhancer is a barely there, sheer pink. And it’s incredibly smoothing and emollient but not thick or sticky. I am a lip balm addict. I have them everywhere. Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment Smith’s Rosebud Salve are two favorites but I would give both of those up to have one of Jouer’s Lip Enhancers in every room and pocket. Seriously, it’s just that good. It’s less expensive than Fresh’s Sugar ($22.50) and more expensive than Rosebud ($6) at $14 but it feels so luxurious that I would pay MORE for it. There are a bunch of really good things in it like Vitamin E, Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil to keep your lips all moist and plump and this enhancer 100% kept my lips super hydrated.

So since then, I’ve been watching Jouer through their Facebook community and over the past year they’ve grown. They’re now available at Nordstrom (my new favorite place to shop, more on that in another post) and when I saw something called the Bare Beauty Collection. I decided to try it. What’s cool about Jouer is that the products attach to each other so you can create your own palette each day.

The Bare Beauty Collection Includes:

Essential Matte Touch – this mattifying balm takes away any unwanted shine

The Naturals Powder Eyeshadow Trio – shimmering beige, shimmering taupe and shimmering dark chocolate

Bare Tint – sheer rosy nude (think cream blush)

Nude Lip Gloss – creamy true nude (yes we’re back to the Pinky-Beige glosses!)

I haven’t yet tried the tint or Matte Touch but I did try the Shadow and the Lip Gloss. And I have to say that these shadows are super easy to apply. Even for people like me who can’t figure eye shadow out! They blend so easy and look really super on the eye. They go on sheer so you can build for your preferred intensity and the colors are so incredibly and perfectly natural with all the right shimmer (enough to sparkle but not so much your eyes look like tin foil). I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shadow’s. LOVE. LOVE! REALLY LOVE!

I also really love the Gloss. My only gripe is that it didn’t last long and while it’s not a long lasting gloss, I had to reapply by the time I got to work (30 minute ride). What is amazing about the gloss is that it doesn’t feel tacky and it feels as hydrating as the Lip Enhancer. Which I love because so often, I adore a gloss for color but they feel so drying on my lips. And who wants to wear a gloss that’s going to make your lips peel at the end of the day? Not me. This gloss will NOT dry your lips out. It’s really emollient. And the color is very natural. It’s the color you wish your lips were. It’s that perfect beige-y, pink that I always seek out.

The entire collection is $58 – which is very reasonable for the 4 products you receive and can be purchased via their website or through Nordstrom.
